Happy Gas or Laughing Gas is used in dental procedures to help reduce the pain and anxiety during treatment.
If you suffer from mild to moderate anxiety, our dentists may offer the use of Happy Gas. The gas can create a feeling of euphoria, hence has also been titled “Happy Gas”. It is ideal for all types of patients, both young and old, and in particular anxious and nervous patients.
For the quantities used in the dental setting, Happy Gas will not put the patient to sleep (otherwise how does one laugh when asleep?). The patient remains awake rather than being unconscious, which allows the dentist to communicate with the patient during treatment, making the entire procedure easier and more comfortable.
Happy Gas can be used in any dental procedures ranging from root canal treatments, fitting of crowns and dental implants, through to less invasive treatments such as fillings and general check-up and clean. Not only does it reduces dental anxiety, it also provides pain relief as well. Many of our patients tell us that the gas puts them at ease and relaxes them when it comes to having dental treatment done.
